I was keen to join ABN AMRO, given their focus on outsourcing and business-facing roles within IT. The chance to spend my first 12 months rotating around various business areas was also attractive and following the initial 6-week Amsterdam Academy that’s exactly what I did.
I’ve since rotated throughout Services IT to Group Functions, Risk, Global Markets, Business Management, Global Services Vendor Management and Service Delivery, building a vast network of professional contacts, plus the confidence to approach any new opportunities with enthusiasm, along the way. I now work as a GM IT MiFID Test Manager, producing a high-level MiFID testing strategy. Alongside project managers I’ve introduced a test governance model, which outlines test phases, approach, deliverables, management processes and environmental needs.
From day one I’ve felt supported by the mentor and buddy systems and rotation review milestones, which helped highlight areas for development. The chance to spend 3 months in New Jersey, New York was amazing and enabled me to experience the wider ABN AMRO culture, which is project-focused with a strong belief in knowledge sharing. My next ambition is to spend time working within a specialised team, to gain first-hand experience of a product area and its support system in order to increase my confidence of future project management roles.
