The chance to rotate around several departments was ideal for me, as I wanted the opportunity to try my hand in a few areas before deciding what to do for the long term. I was also fortunate enough to meet ABN AMRO staff from several different offices before joining, and they all seemed to have interests that they were able to pursue outside of the office. This work-life balance appealed to me.

In a company such as ABN AMRO, there's just so much going on at the same time. Being in a particular department for only a few months at a time requires you to learn quickly and to be especially proactive if you want to contribute to the team. As a member of the sales and trading programme, I’ve been all over the bank. I think this gave me an insight on how the entire bank’s operations come together.

I thought that the training in Amsterdam was a very good experience, not just from an academic standpoint, but also because it was unique to learn about the culture of the firm from the place where it all started. I’ve had the chance to go for several training courses over the last year. Obviously, the academy in Amsterdam comprised the majority of my training, but I'm glad to say that it hasn’t all just stopped there. We’ve had to upgrade our knowledge constantly, and the training programmes have helped immensely.

The culture here's focused, yet friendly. Everyone takes it upon themselves to put in the work necessary, but if there’s something that you’re unsure about, there are no repercussions to asking questions.

Hong Kong is the financial hub of Asia, and I believe that there's much greater depth and scope over here as compared to other Asian cities. It’s obviously very exciting, although it does mean late nights every once in a while!
