What initially attracted me to ABN AMRO were the people I met and the atmosphere at the bank. It's an extremely friendly place to work, although it can also be competitive. The programme has been great in allowing me to network with different teams. It's introduced me to new areas and allowed me to make more informed decisions on where I want my career to go.

The rotational placements gave me a variety of experiences, so I really got an idea of what it’s like to work in different teams within the bank. I had rotations in Fixed Income Research, Sales, Foreign Exchange Sales, PIP Sales, Local Market Sales, and ABS Capital Markets.

The main challenge I faced on the programme was trying to come to terms with the financial jargon and the fact that I had little or no market and product knowledge. The only way to get around this is to ask lots of questions and to speak to as many people as you can. This not only enabled me to learn a lot about the markets by gathering different views, but it also gave me the chance to develop a number of useful contacts for my future career.

At the same time, learning about new products and building my understanding of how the market reacts to daily news, political decisions and data is one of the most enjoyable aspects. It's helped enormously with my current role as a Local Market Sales Associate. I'm the primary contact for a range of clients, providing them with market information, giving the views on market events, and supplying data on pricing and trading. It means I'm constantly keeping track of the market and giving my own and the bank's opinion on trades to clients. So the experience I gained on the programme has helped enormously.
