I was originally attracted to ABN AMRO because it's a diverse, multi-cultural bank with impressive resources and a worldwide presence. My experience so far has been very interesting and enjoyable. I've had opportunities to see the wide range of our business areas, including normal corporate lending, structured lending, trading, investment banking, etc. I have experienced excellent teamwork, allowing me to collaborate with people from different backgrounds or countries, which is the best way to see the diversity of ABN AMRO. The flexibility of the programme has also allowed me to discover my interest, strengths and weaknesses, which in turn helps me to identify a clear career objective.

Risk management is one of the most important controlled functions in the bank and to be a good risk manager requires good analytics, communications, and sufficient experience. The only way to build up experience is to learn by asking and reading. I always ask people around me whenever a question arises, and read as many proposals as possible. Within the bank, the vast availability of resources is definitely an attraction to me. People I've worked with have always been keen and patient to help.

Currently I'm taking a rotation in Germany, working with the Country Risk Officer (CRO) and managing credit risk of normal corporate clients. My day-to-day work mainly involves the approval of various credit submissions, such as the annual review of our loan portfolios, amendment of our exposure limits to clients, and approval of new business. Most of the clients here are large German companies, and we offer a broad range of products including loans, cash pool management, guarantees and traded products.
