Living and working in Moscow

A city of vast contrasts and home to the largest population in Europe, Moscow is enjoying a dramatic period of change and growth. From a staid, Stalinist monolith of yesteryear it's become a modern cosmopolitan metropolis and is now second only to Manhattan for the number of billionaires living here.

Like any large, diverse city, signs of poverty can still be found in Moscow, although the place is transforming at a breathtaking pace. Located in the centre of the East-European plain, it's the spiritual, political and economic capital of the world's largest country and as much a magnet for multinational corporations as migrants from the former Soviet Republics.

There's a lot to see and do here. At the heart of the city, is the Kremlin, a group of magnificent palaces, churches and jewellery collections, including Fabergé eggs. Adjacent is Red Square, Lenin's Mausoleum and the multicoloured domes of St Basil's Cathedral. There are beautiful neo-classical 'wedding cake' houses and concert halls too, plus a few surprises, like the underground palaces of the Metro system. With their murals, chandeliers and the largest and probably most efficient network in the world, you'll have no excuse for ever being late for work!

The old GUM shopping centre is opposite the Kremlin and now an attractive and busy upmarket shopping precinct. While a walk or metro ride away is the bohemian Arbat area. Southwest is Gorky Park, the city's main recreation area and a good place to relax at the weekend. You'll need to keep an eye on the weather though. As in contrast to the harshness of a Moscow winter, summer temperatures can reach over 30°C (86°F).

So, join our Moscow office and enjoy all the variety and excitement that living and working in such a vibrant city brings.
