Question

What is the longer term view for the Graduate Development Programme and Management Associate Programme?

Answer

Graduate recruitment is part of ABN AMRO's long-term strategy. Graduates are seen as the future managers of our business and therefore, even when market conditions are difficult, it is important to maintain the pipeline of entry level talent coming into the business.

Question

Can you send me an application form in the post?

Answer

All applications must be made through the on-line application form. Hard copies of the application form are available however, for candidates with special needs. Please refer to Apply section for specific application submission requirements.

Question

How soon will it be before I have an interview?

Answer

Wherever possible, we aim to contact you with our decision within two weeks of receiving your application. Successful candidates will be advised of the next available selection days. However, you will always be able to log on and view how your application is progressing at all times through our application form.

Question

How long will my interview take / when will I finish on the day?

Answer

In London the selection process is a full day of assessments at our London Offices. These assessment days will start promptly at 8.00am and conclude by 18.00. In Hong Kong it is a 2 day selection process. You will be invited to a first stage assessment centre which will involve an aptitude test. This should last no more than two hours. Successful candidates will then contacted for a telephone interview and then if successful, you will be invited to a final stage assessment day which will conclude no later than 17.00. Question

Will ABN AMRO reimburse my travel expenses?

Answer

ABN AMRO will reimburse economy travel costs for candidates involved in the selection process, in accordance with the company's travel and entertainment policy reimbursement limits. We will require original receipts for all expense claims. For our London office, the nearest station is Liverpool Street and we are 2 minutes walk using the Bishopsgate exit.

Question

I am going travelling between October and December. Can I still have an interview?

Answer

The selection process will begin in October 2007 for positions on the 2008 Global Graduate Development Programme. We are anticipating completing recruitment by December 2007 and so cannot guarantee you an interview after this time.

What is involved in the first interview?

Answer

The first interview is competency based and is normally conducted by a member of the HR team for the appropriate business area. Please refer to the selection process page.

Question

What is involved in the aptitude tests?

Answer

ABN AMRO uses a verbal and numerical reasoning test, which puts candidates into a work situation. You may wish to practise similar tests, which are often available from University careers services. You will be provided with all of the required materials prior to the test and will not be allowed to use a calculator. For further details regarding this test, see information on our financial appraisal test in the Apply section on this site.

When can I expect to receive an offer?

Answer

We aim to conclude the offer process by the end of December. In most cases, we aim to let you know our decision within 2 days following your assessment centre. Should you find that you have to decide on an offer from another company, whilst still interviewing with ABN AMRO, discuss this with our Graduate Recruitment team and we will try our best to speed up our process, allowing you to make an informed decision about your career.

The closing date for the 2008 China Summer Internship Programme is 17.00 (Beijing time), Sunday 30th December 2007. Is there an age limit for graduate applications?

No, we welcome applications from graduates of any age. The Global Graduate Development Programme and Management Associate Programme are, however, entry level programmes which may not be best suited to meet your career expectations if you already have substantial work experience in a relevant role. Question

I do not meet your minimum entry requirements, there are mitigating circumstances, can you make an exception?

Answer

For Gradudate Development Programme, the minimum academic requirements are 300 UCAS points and a 2:1 degree, or overseas equivalent. For Management Associate Programme, the minimum academic criteria are GPA 3.4/4.0 or Second Class Upper degree or equivalent. We have a limited number of opportunities on the graduate and internship programmes for which we receive a high number of quality applications. The minimum academic criteria are set to allow us to select fairly from this pool of applicants. It is therefore rigorously applied. We are usually unable to make exceptions in regard to the academic criteria when mitigating circumstances have affected your grades.

Do you have a preference for certain universities?

Answer

We accept applications from all universities as long as you meet the minimum academic criteria your application will be reviewed for a position on the graduate programme.

Question

I do not have a finance/IT related degree will this be viewed unfavourably?

Answer

We welcome applications from all academic backgrounds. At ABN AMRO we value what you have gained from your degree experience and how you are able to apply it. However, for some departments a related degree may be considered a distinct advantage, these will be highlighted as required. Above all we look for graduates who have a genuine enthusiasm for the world of banking and the area they are applying to.

Answer

The Summer Internship Programme is open to penultimate year (graduating in 2009) students only and we are unfortunately unable to accept applications from candidates outside of their penultimate year.

Can I apply if I need a work permit?

Answer

In London, we are happy to accept applications for our Graduate Development and Summer Internship Programmes from non EU citizens. We will make the necessary arrangements for a work permit should an offer of employment be made. However please bear in mind that if you have not studied in the European Union, government requirements to prove that we cannot fill our vacancies with the graduates available in EU may make it difficult for us to secure a successful application on your behalf. Please see our Locations section of the website for details of the requirements in our other global locations as these will vary by region.

Do you do one year sandwich placements?

Answer

ABN AMRO currently offers ten to 12 week Summer Internships in London, Hong Kong and China to students within their penultimate year at university. We do not currently offer a one year placement scheme. However, when other opportunities become available, we will post these on the site.

Can I do some unpaid work experience/work shadowing?

Answer

ABN AMRO offers Summer Internships to students in their penultimate year at university. In London, Hong Kong and China, we do not currently offer a work experience programme. However, please check our Internship section for more details in other regions. You may wish to contact temporary placement agencies in the City for information about summer jobs outside of the Summer Internship Programme.

Training and experience

Question

Once I join the graduate development programme, can I do further studies/qualifications?

Answer

Yes, some graduates will be required to complete the FSA regulatory exams and will be provided with relevant training prior to doing so. Graduates in Finance and Accounting will study towards either the ACCA or CIMA qualification during their three year programme. Additionally, graduates joining our Equity Research business may be offered the opportunity to complete the CFA.

What opportunities will there be for overseas travel during my career?

Answer

Plenty. At the beginning of your Graduate Development Programme, you will spend a minimum of six weeks at our Amsterdam Academy. Beyond that, you may have rotations in one of our other international offices or apply for placements which arise in other locations. As your career develops, longer term opportunities could arise in any of the 50 plus countries in which we operate. The possibilities are almost unlimited.

What support will I get in the first 12 months?

Answer

The Graduate Recruitment team will be on hand throughout your first 12 months to provide you support in your training and development and will assist you in identifying your development needs. We also offer a Buddy and Mentor Programme designed to provide you with support at a peer level through your buddy but also guidance at a more experienced level through your mentor.
