Consumer Client Segment

The Consumer Client Segment focuses on our mid-market consumer clients, the mass affluent market. It enables the Group to serve this section of the market by combining local intimacy with global excellence, in line with our strategy. Maintaining this focus will deliver profitable and sustainable growth in consumer banking.

The Segment was created at the end of 2004 as part of a refinement of the bank’s strategy. Its global influence was further strengthened when the Group’s structure was realigned at the start of 2006, increasing the amount of attention paid to serving the needs of mid-market consumer clients everywhere.

Every regional Client Business Unit deals with consumer clients, as does the BU Private Clients. The Consumer Client Segment operates across all of these business units but it is not a Business Unit in itself – rather, its task is to align the work of the Product business units and the Client business units.

The Consumer Segment Leadership Team (CSLT) includes Ron Teerlink (member of the Managing Board), Ravi Sankaranarayanan (Global head of the Segment), and the head of Consumer Banking in each regional Client BU, including members representing BU Private Clients and Antonveneta.

The CSLT has four priority areas:

  • Achieving cost-effective service excellence: lowering the cost of consumer client services and increasing client satisfaction
  • Accelerating the roll out of standardised formulas into new markets and using these to stimulate growth in existing markets
  • Exploiting technological solutions to increase local intimacy: building on our experience in internet banking and customer relationship management
  • Exploring the potential of managing particular product lines on a global scale

Share Talent Expertise Programme (STEP)

The Share Talent Expertise Programme (STEP) is a talent exchange programme across borders and business units. This enables us to share knowledge, develop our employees and implement best practices across borders, increasing revenues and creating one bank without boundaries.
STEP enables potential leaders and management to share knowledge and expertise, creating winning formulas with winning teams. STEP encourages sharing expertise and operational excellence across the Group.
